This is it

Just shy of four months since his untimely death, new material from Michael Jackson has hit the airwaves. The song, entitled “This is it” was officially released this morning via the web and radio, and will be featured in the closing sequence of the upcoming documentary by the same name.

Though the track is definitely Michael Jackson(esque) with his signature vocal style and a mid tempo beat, it sounds like something I’ve heard before, especially with his brother’s background vocals giving it that old familiar Jackson 5 doowop sound. It’s almost reminiscent of “Never Can Say Goodbye” or maybe it’s “I Just can’t stop Loving You”…?

Anyway, whichever song, truth be told, I can’t help but wonder if the song would even sound as it does if he were still alive and I’m willng to make a small, friendly wager that it would not. Let’s call it the “Tupac Syndrome” for lack of a better term. I think y’all know what I’m talking about, but don’t take my word for it. Listen for yourself and tell me what you think.
